The day was warm and sunny, the crowds were in a joyful mood, and our School of Nursing volunteers made our table a huge success at the second annual UMN Juneteenth Celebration. The spinning wheel for prizes was a big hit as we handed out kid stethoscopes, water bottles, books and Band-Aids! Representation is so important, and the kids’ books and coloring books portrayed African American men and women in nursing. Our nursing faculty and students provided free blood pressure checks and counseling -- much appreciated by many. Shout out to School of Nursing volunteers Bisi Burks, Donna Eull, Christie Martin, Mary Whipple, Abdoulaye Camara, Annie Koolen, Beth Al-Qudah, Mary Benbenek and their families.
