Nursing Research Day focuses on innovation, technology

Faculty, students and community members filled McNamara Alumni Center April 12 for the school’s annual Nursing Research Day. The theme this year was Research, Innovation and Technology.
Keynote speaker Karen Drenkard, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, who leads the GetWellNetwork’s clinical team, spoke about the best practices in the use of technology to enhance the patient and family experience. The School of Nursing and GetWellNetwork announced a partnership last year to transform faculty-led research into real-world applications
Research posters and oral presentations showcased findings from innovative research and evidence-based projects representing the school’s four research areas of focus, including health promotion among vulnerable populations, prevention and management of chronic health conditions, symptom management, and health/nursing informatics and systems innovation.
Doctor of Nursing Practice student Meagan Thompson won the People’s Choice Award for her poster Breaking the Cycle: Sexual Health Among Students in the Juvenile Justice System. Danielle Wills, M Health/Fairview Health Services, received second place for her poster, It Doesn't Have to Hurt: Integrating Evidence to Promote Comfort During Pediatric Procedures. Third place went to Bachelor of Science in Nursing student Liwanag Namoc for Ginger as Adjuvant Therapy for Preventing Chemo-Induced Nausea (CIN) in Adult Cancer Patients: A Literature Review.
