Porta to co-chair President's Initiative to Prevent Sexual Misconduct

University of Minnesota President Joan Gabel, JD, selected Carolyn Porta, PhD, MPH, RN, FAAN, associate vice president for clinical affairs and professor in the School of Nursing, to serve as co-chair of the President's Initiative to Prevent Sexual Misconduct (PIPSM). PIPSM aims for long-term culture change to build a University community free from all forms of sexual misconduct.

Porta has served on the PIPSM Advisory Committee and as co-chair of the PIPSM Research Subcommittee. She will serve as co-chair for two years.

Porta’s research expertise is in sexual violence prevention and her clinical expertise is in forensic nursing as a sexual assault nurse examiner. She was appointed to the Attorney General’s Working Group on Sexual Assault, which made recommendations regarding the systematic failures in responses to sexual assault reports.
