Director for Simulation

The University of Minnesota School of Nursing seeks an outstanding leader and scholar as the Director for Simulation.  Responsibilities include developing, integrating and leading simulated learning experiences for all academic programs in the school of nursing, including an emphasis on simulated experiences that foster interprofessional learning and emphasize the continuum of care.  The candidate is expected to implement an innovative simulation research/scholarship agenda to advance the science of simulation. This position involves working collaboratively with the Academic Health Center and University of Minnesota simulation centers.

The candidate should have an earned doctorate in nursing, an active research/ scholarship program in simulation, and at least 3 years in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating simulation programs. It is preferred that the candidate meets the criteria for a tenured associate or full professor and holds Certification as  Health Care Simulation Educator (CHSE).

  1. Strategically plan and facilitate simulation use and effectiveness, for all academic programs in the school of nursing and including integration of interprofessional simulation.
    • Lead the development and implementation of an integrated plan for simulation in all of the school’s academic programs.
    • Collaborate with faculty in developing, implementing and evaluating a plan for innovative simulated learning experiences across the curricula (BSN, MN and DNP) and meeting accreditation and MN Board of Nursing requirements.
    • Facilitate and promote interprofessional simulation learning experiences for students in the BSN, MN and DNP programs.
  2.  Serve as the liaison to simulation centers in the university, AHC and the state such as the AHC 1Health Simulation Center, to promote and facilitate a collaborative approach for supporting simulated learning opportunities for students.

  5.  Ensure  all high fidelity simulations meet INACSL/NCSBN standards including theory-based debriefing (MN Board of Nursing requirement)
  6.  Develop, implement and evaluate new models for managing student simulation experiences (e.g., scheduling simulations, staffing considerations, etc.) at both campuses, including coordination with the AHC simulation resources.
  7.  Develop, implement and evaluate a faculty development plan to ensure competency of faculty in simulation (MN Board of Nursing requirement).
  8.  Integrate emerging technologies and simulation pedagogical developments into faculty development, curriculum and course enhancements.
