Monitoring APN Productivity in Practice
Ideally there should be a bell curve of APN billing, with the smallest amounts
of billing occurring at the low and high ends of the billing scale. The
APN must:
- Calculate number of visits and reimbursement collected as a measure
of full-time-equivalent practice to document productivity
- Separate direct patient activities (face-to-face clinical time) from
indirect patient activities (nonclinical activities such as phone calls,
referral contacts, letter-writing, meetings)
- justify the amount of time spent on each activity
Now for some practice on documentation. Let's go back to the
American Association of Family Practice
for some charting guidelines and case study examples.
Well, you now are very informed about reimbursement of APNs. Congratulations
on your hard work! Do you sense the urgency of staying informed? The World
Wide Web is a great resource. Here is one of the most exciting sites: Health
Hippo.
