Planned Gifts and Bequests

There are creative ways to support the School of Nursing through future gifts some of which will produce income for you. Whether you would like to support an existing fund or create a new fund of your own, the possibilities for advancing nursing research and education are many.

Wills and Living Trusts
Gifts made through a will bequest or a living trust provision allow you to control assets during your lifetime and reduce your estate taxes.

Income-Producing Gifts
A number of financial plans allow you to make a gift to the School and still receive an income for yourself and your beneficiaries. The most common plans are gift annuities or charitable remainder trusts. Depending upon the plan you choose, the income can be fixed or variable, can continue during your lifetime for you or a beneficiary, or can last for a term of years.

Charitable Lead Trusts
This trust provides income to the School for a fixed period. The assets in the trust are returned to you as donor or to another person you designate, usually with favorable tax implications.

If you would like to discuss future gifts, please contact Laurel Mallon at 612-624-2490 or mallo001@umn.edu or or Cathy Konat at 612-624-0103 or kona0006@umn.edu.
