The Associate Dean for Academic Programs provides creative leadership in the promotion of excellence in all levels of nursing education and, in this capacity, reports to the Dean. The role encompasses administration of academic and student affairs and communication among faculty with respect to the nature of nursing and the structure of educational programs and is ultimately accountable for their quality and currency. The Associate Dean for Academic Programs will provide impetus, guidance and support to faculty as they design and implement educational programs that meet the needs of changing educational and health care systems. This administrative position will be a twelve-month, annually renewable appointment. Qualified candidates will also receive appointment as a tenured Professor.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, monitoring, implementation, and evaluation of all levels of curricula.
- Lead and promote the development, implementation and evaluation of innovative teaching strategies and e-learning, simulation, and other technological innovation within all levels of curricula.
- Establish systems to provide information about the curricula for prospective students, Academic Health Center, University admissions and registrar¿s office, state, regional, and national accrediting bodies, student recruitment activities, and cooperating Schools in Minnesota.
- Lead the development and implementation of elements of the School¿s strategic plan related to academic programs.
- Provide stewardship for and manage the utilization of personnel, budget, and resources.
- Establish and maintain programs for curriculum development.
- Enhance the visibility and promote the School of Nursing at state, regional, national, international and professional meetings, and when appropriate legislative activities.
- Design and implement faculty development strategies for teaching, research, and public service in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Research, Director of Faculty Practice, and the Cooperative Unit Chairs.
- Oversee student services offices and functions including the management of schedules, records, and reports within the School; academic advancement; admissions, progressions, graduate; disciplinary actions; student grievances.
- Serve as official liaison between the School of Nursing and the Academic Health Center and other University units concerned with academic programming.
- Participate in decision making to establish direction, policy and procedures regarding academic programs, student advising and community partnerships.
- Establish and maintain an interdisciplinary focus across curricula and programs.
- Provide review and evaluation of other School of Nursing support systems related to academic programs and student services.
- Participate in undergraduate, professional, and graduate teaching, research, continuing education, student advising and community activities based on the needs of the School.
- Provide leadership to establish policies and programs that demonstrate a commitment to an inclusive environment that attracts and retains a diverse workforce and nurtures a culture where every employee feels valued and is able to function at his/her best.
- Assume the responsibilities of the Dean as delegated.
Essential Qualifications:
- Hold a PhD in nursing or related discipline.
- Eligible for appointment as a tenured Professor with full membership in the Graduate School faculty.
- Demonstrated leadership at all levels of curricula development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Demonstrated scholarship in an area of nursing education and the use of technology within the learning environment.
- Participated and currently participates in professional organizations and community activities.
- Eligible for current licensure as a nurse in Minnesota.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in academic administration.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate faculty and lead teams in a dynamic environment.
- Evidence of cross-disciplinary collaboration.
- Track record of extramural funding.
