Members of the Center have key roles in several major educational projects that are federally funded.

Adolescent Health Protection Research Training

CCFHPR member and Professor Linda Bearinger, PhD, RN, FAAN is Project Director for the CDC-funded Adolescent Health Protection Research Training Program. Its purpose is to prepare scientists with the capacity to conduct public health research that advances evidence-based programs, practices, and policies for addressing health disparities and improving the health of all adolescents. CCFHPR faculty member and Associate Professor Renee Sieving, PhD, PNP serves as Nursing Team Leader. Sandy Pettingell and Carol Skay are Statistical Advisors. CCFHPR faculty involved in the program include Ann Garwick, PhD, RN, LP, LMFT, FAAN, Marti Kubik, PhD, RN, RNC and Linda Halcón, PhD, MPH.

Center for Adolescent Nursing

CCFHPR member and Professor Linda Bearinger, PhD, RN, FAAN directs the Center for Adolescent Nursing, one of only seven national education centers funded by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, and the only one focusing on adolescent health. The CAN mission is to narrow the disparity that exists between the needs of youth and the preparedness of nurses to address those needs. Masters and doctoral degrees, and post-doctoral fellowships are offered to those focusing in Adolescent Health. CCFHPR members Linda Halcón, PhD, MPH, Marti Kubik, PhD, FNP, and Renee Sieving, PhD, PNP, as well as Scott Harpin, MS, MPH, RN, teach and advise graduate students and post-doctoral fellows in this program. With recent support and additional research training funds from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, fellowships are now available at all levels of graduate and post-doctoral adolescent health training.

Center for Children with Special Health Care Needs

CCFHPR member and Professor Ann Garwick, PhD, RN, FAAN oversees the Center for Children with Special Health Care Needs, an MCHB-funded national educational center that emphasizes a holistic approach to the care of children and adolescents in the contexts of family and community. Students may obtain a doctoral degree or an MS with a focus in Children with Special Health Care Needs, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner/CSHCN, or Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist. Additional CCFHPR faculty members Barbara Leonard, PhD, RN, FAAN, Linda Lindeke, PhD, RN, CNP, Wendy Looman, PhD, RN and Susan O'Conner-Von, DNSc, RNC, as well as Christine Poe, MPH, RN, CNP are involved in this program.
