Preceptors

Welcome, Preceptors!

Welcome to the University of Minnesota School of Nursing's Web site for preceptor education and clinical teaching! The goal of this site is to offer our preceptors opportunities to learn more about clinical teaching, as well as to share ideas about the joys and challenges of learning in the clinical environment.

General Preceptor Orientation

This includes an overview of roles and responsibilities, helpful hints for clinical teaching and problem solving techniques. In the near future, we hope to have links directly to specific courses or Areas of Study that would allow you to access to documents that would support your experience.

  • General Preceptor Information is available.

    Evaluation in Nursing Education

This is a 10 clock hour or 12 contact hour (CE) course that fulfills the requirement of the Minnesota Board of Nursing for faculty and preceptors. This course gives information on how to evaluate nursing students both in lecture and clinical classes. To register for this course, click here.

If you have any questions regarding this site, please send them to Linda Vegell at ljvegell@umn.edu. We here at the School of Nursing hope that you enjoy this learning experience and find some of the teaching tools useful for your clinical experience with our students.

    Message From the Dean

    Dear Clinical Colleagues:

On behalf of the faculty and staff of our School of Nursing, I sincerely thank you for the time, energy and rich experiences you are providing our students. We see their learning as a true partnership with you. They need a balance of foundational knowledge and real-world experiences to become the quality nursing graduates of which we can all be proud, and which the health care industry definitely needs. We so appreciate your work.
