School of Nursing Professor Carolyn Garcia Leads Red Cross Disaster Health Services

Untitled Document

By 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 1, Carolyn Garcia, PhD, MPH, RN, assistant professor in the School of Nursing, had heard of a Minneapolis bridge collapse.

"As soon as I turned on the T.V. I realized how big the situation was. I immediately kicked into Red Cross mode and paged our Disaster Health Services (DHS) on-call volunteer," Garcia said.

Garcia then e-mailed all of the volunteers in the DHS unit, letting them know that she was available and ready to help when needed. (Read more.)
