Nurse-Midwifery: Clinical Experience and Coursework

Nurse-Midwifery seminars and clinical courses must be taken together as a sequence of five semesters on a full time basis.

The course sequence in Nurse-Midwifery begins in the fall semester; the first clinical course begins in Spring Semester. Coursework and clinical practice are scheduled according to University guidelines. The clinical hours are flexible and may vary from week to week. Clinical experiences may occur during days, evenings and weekends. Students are not in clinical sites during semester breaks. One clinical credit hour is equivalent to four hours in the clinical setting.

Clinical placements occur in a variety of nurse-midwifery services. These sites provide opportunity for students to provide care to clients of many cultures. Current clinical placements include private and public services in the metro area (Minneapolis and St. Paul) and in several rural settings and include opportunities in neighboring states.
