Nurse-Midwifery: Admission
Admission
Ten to twelve students are admitted annually into the Nurse-Midwifery program that begins in the fall semester. Applicants should have one year of relevant clinical experience as an RN in maternity nursing, preferably in labor and delivery, before applying for the Nurse-Midwifery specialty area.
To apply to the Nurse-Midwifery specialty area, you must submit the online School of Nursing application and all corresponding materials. Applications are due November 1.
Those students interested in the NM area of study that are not selected may be placed on a waiting list. If not selected from the wait list, you must reapply to be conisdered for the next year.
Those students already enrolled in the School of Nursing in another specialty area may apply for the NM program by submitting a new School of Nursing appliation and a Graduate School Change of Status form. Applications are due November 1.
Professional Development students who have already earned a Master's or Doctoral degree in nursing complete almost the same curriculum as other Nurse-Midwifery students. Courses that are current and similar to required University of Minnesota courses might be reviewed for substitution for University of Minnesota courses by completing a formal petition. Course requirements for Professional Development students are arranged on an individual basis.
