Master of Nursing Application

To apply to the MN program, click on the link above, create a user name and password, select the Master of Nursing program, and follow the listed instructions. You may return to the application at any time by logging into the site; however, once you formally submit, you may not make changes to the application.

In addition to the online application, you will need to submit the following supplemental materials as part of the application process:

  • Official transcripts from every post-secondary institution you attended, not just your degree-granting institution. Please note, we do require official University of Minnesota transcripts; we will not pull these for you. Additionally, even if credits from one institution show up on a different transcript, we will still require the transcript from the original institution for verification.

Applicants who have completed college-level courses outside the U.S. and Canada must have their international coursework evaluated. This can be accomplished by sending transcripts to a foreign credentials evaluation service. This evaluation must be sent to the School of Nursing. The following is a list of foreign credential evaluation services:

          Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc
          http://www.ece.org
          414-289-3400

          World Education Services, Inc.
          http://www.wes.org
          212-966-6311

If your international coursework was completed as part of a study abroad through a U.S. institution, only the U.S. transcript is required.

  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Two essays
  • Current resume
  • TOEFL scores if English is not your native language
  • $60 application fee (non-refundable)

The application deadline for the MN program is January 15 and all materials must be received by this date. Late or incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Please take this into account when requesting your official transcripts.

Although the MN program is designed for those who already have a baccalaureate degree, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is also an option for pursuing a nursing education. The BSN program is 3 years in length – it cannot be condensed because of the clinical curriculum layout; however it is a less intensive program and there are no summer courses so it is more conducive for students to hold a job during the program. Either option brings you to the same end-point, and both provide a good stepping stone for advanced nursing education such as the Doctor of Nursing Practice. You can apply to both programs during the same application cycle. For more information about the BSN program and application instructions, please visit the BSN section of our website.

Notification Timeline
Applications are not reviewed by the Admissions Committee until after the January deadline; however, early submission is appreciated. It allows time for processing and also ensures all of your materials (specifically transcripts and letters of recommendation) arrive on time.

Interviews are invitation-only and granted to a select group of applicants. They are usually hosted over two or three days in March. Notification of acceptance is approximately one to two weeks after the interviews conclude.

Admission into the Program
If admitted to the MN program, a $500 non-refundable tuition deposit is required to secure a position in the entering class. The deposit will be credited toward the first semester tuition upon matriculation. You will also be required to submit documentation related to immunizations, background check, and minimum technical/physical standards. Information about these items will be provided upon admission.
