MnHCGNE Director Jean Wyman, Ph.D., R.N., F.A.A.N., F.G.S.A has been selected to the Academic Health Center's Academy of Excellence in Health Research. This Academy is intended to serve as the highest recognition of excellence in AHC faculty research. To be selected one must have demonstrated contribution to the quality of the University of Minnesota through sustained nationally and internationally recognized health-related research. This is a lifetime membership. Congratulations to Jean Wyman on this wonderful accomplishment.

Mary Dierich, M.S., R.N., G.N.P.-B.C., and Kristine Talley, Ph.D., M.S., R.N., A.P.R.N.-B.C., were selected as 2008-10 John A. Hartford Foundation Academic Geriatric Nursing Scholar and Fellow, respectively. The awards were given by the Building Academic Geriatric Nursing Capacity program as part of an initiative to increase the number of experts in geriatric nursing.

MnHCGNE Center Director and School of Nursing Professor Jean Wyman, Ph.D., R.N., F.A.A.N, F.G.S.A., has been elected as president of the Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS). Wyman's two-year term began at the 2008 MNRS conference, March 28-31 in Indianapolis, Indiana. "Dr. Wyman's election as president of MNRS is a clear recognition of her national recognition as an outstanding nurse researcher and leader," said Connie Delaney, Ph.D., R.N., F.A.A.N., F.A.C.M.I., dean of the School of Nursing.

Donna Bliss, Ph.D., R.N., F.A.A.N., F.G.S.A was also elected as co-chair of the Gerontological Nursing Research Section at this year's MNRS.

Alliance Meeting
May 27- 29, 2008

Our first annual Midwest Geriatric Nursing Education Alliance Meeting hosted in Minneapolis, MN will be held starting the evening of May 27th and concluding on May 29th.

Minnesota Gerontological Society Webinar
Tuesday June 10, 2008

The second Minnesota Gerontological Society webinar will be at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, June 10, 2008. The topic is Dementia: Benefits of Early Detection, Diagnosis and Patient/Family Treatment Protocols, presented by Dr. Catherine Johnson, licensed psychologist with the Associated Clinic of Psychology.

FLAG Institute
August 4 - 8, 2008

An innovative faculty development program - Faculty Learning About Geriatrics (FLAG) - will be launched in August of 2008. This program is designed for faculty in the Alliance schools (associate and higher degree nursing programs), doctoral nursing students, and advanced practice nurses who want to develop or increase their expertise in teaching geriatric nursing.
