The mission of the Minnesota Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence is to advance the care of older adults by preparing outstanding nursing faculty from diverse backgrounds who can provide leadership in strengthening geriatric nursing at all levels of academic nursing programs. The focus of the MnHCGNE is to increase the number of new and existing faculty who will provide academic leadership in geriatric nursing in associate and higher degree programs in the Upper Midwest region and Tribal Colleges.
As a Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence, the University of Minnesota is proud to be part of the broader Hartford Geriatric Nursing Initiative (HGNI). Since 1995 through a $67 million investment from the Hartford Foundation, the HGNI and its component programs have been preparing professional nurses to play leadership roles in improving the health and health care of older adults.
