Doctoral Study - Create Your Desired Future

Doctoral StudentIt is a great time for doctoral study in nursing, especially in geriatrics - the need is understood, support is available, and nurses are taking the lead in health care for aging adults.  Admitted students committed to geriatrics and a career as an academic educator are eligible for doctoral scholarships offered by our Center that include tuition and travel monies.  The brochure Discover Your Future as a Hartford Geriatric Nursing Education Scholar outlines this initiative, and we’d be happy to discuss it more fully with you.

As Director of the Scholar program, Professor Ruth Lindquist is familiar with the variety of focus areas and extensive collaborative opportunities awaiting you.  She welcomes questions via phone at 612-624-5646 or email at lindq002@umn.edu.  Ruth is happy to discuss PhD/DNP program differences, financial support, balancing work/school/life and other factors that affect your potential doctoral study, as well as recommending faculty with interests similar to your own.

If you haven’t already, take a look at the current program information at http://www.nursing.umn.edu/PhD/home.html and http://www.nursing.umn.edu/DNP/home.html.  The Office of Student and Career Advancement Services staff, as well as program directors, can assist in decision making, timing, and the application process. Applications for 2011 enrollment are available via login at https://secure.ahc.umn.edu/nursing/applications/student/index.cfm?flush=1.

    • PhD deadline is 03/01/2012.  (Priority is given to those applications that were received by 12/10/2011.)
    • DNP deadline is 03/01/2012. (Priority is given to those applications that were received by 11/01/2011.)

It is wise to schedule the GRE early and to take advantage of preparation materials.  See information at http://www.ets.org/portal/site/ets/. There are prep classes available at the U, including some online, self-paced courses.  See details at http://www.cce.umn.edu/testprep/gre/.

Whether you are just beginning to consider doctoral study or in the midst of preparing your application, let us know how we can assist you.
