About Us
The Minnesota Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence (MnHCGNE) was established in 2007 with funding from the John A. Hartford Foundation. We are one of nine Centers of Geriatric Nursing Excellence in the country.
Our mission is to advance the care of older adults by preparing outstanding nursing faculty from diverse backgrounds who can provide leadership in strengthening geriatric nursing at all levels of academic nursing programs. MnHCGNE seeks to increase the number of faculty teaching geriatric nursing in associate and higher degree programs in the Upper Midwest region and in tribal colleges.
Goals
- Prepare doctoral students for academic careers in geriatric nursing
- Offer innovative faculty development in geriatric nursing education to faculty and advanced practice nurses in upper midwestern states and tribal colleges
- Establish the Upper Midwest Geriatric Nursing Education Alliance to strengthen the teaching of geriatric nursing in associate degree and higher nursing programs in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and tribal colleges
