Welcome to the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program Homepage
This practice doctorate will prepare nurses for leadership as advanced practice nurses, clinical experts, health care executives, policy experts and informaticians. The DNP is offered via two programs.
DNP: for students who are registered nurses and who hold, at minimum, a baccalaureate degree. It is designed to prepare for advanced practice roles in clinical, administrative and public health arenas. It will provide approximately 91 credits, depending on the student's specialty and degree at time of entry. The program will be launched fall 2009.
Post-Master's DNP: for students who already hold a master's degree in nursing and have nursing specialty preparation. It enables them to earn the DNP within one calendar year. This 37-credit program involves both coursework and a clinical internship. It launched in January 2007 with 31 students. Admission is once per year in the fall, and is competitive.
