Assistantships

Teaching and research assistantships (TA/RA) positions are available for those interested in contributing to the School as well as in gaining professionally related experience. Graduate assistants are paid at an hourly rate and receive tuition coverage at a rate double the percentage of appointment (e.g., if appointed 25%, 50% of the tuition is covered). A health care benefit package is provided on the same basis as the tuition benefit. TA and RA positions are posted in 6-138 Weaver-Densford Hall (and on the University of Minnesota's Web site) and become available throughout the academic year. Please contact the School of Nursing Office of Student Services for application materials.

Traineeship Grants

The following areas of study have various professional traineeship grants available for admitted students:

  • nurse-midwifery
  • pediatric nurse practitioner
  • children with special health care needs
  • family nurse practitioner
  • gerontological nurse practitioner
  • public health
  • public health with an emphasis in adolescent nursing

Traineeships usually include tuition costs and perhaps a stipend. The traineeshipships are awarded to students who plan to work with medically underserved populations or in areas of Minnesota experiencing health professional shortages.

All eligible students are automatically mailed an application in the summer.

Scholarships

The School of Nursing Foundation awards annual scholarships to nursing students at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Awards are made using various criteria such as grade point average, areas of research and practice interest, leadership potential and financial need. Application materials for scholarships for the coming year are available each Spring Semester in the Office of Student Services. These awards are distributed to students during Fall Semester only and are given as direct credit to the nursing student's university account.

Information about a wide variety of scholarships is also available available on this web site (login required):

  • Undergraduate Scholarships
  • Graduate Scholarships
  • Scholarships available to both Undergraduate and Graduate students
