Nurse-Midwifery: Admission
Admission
Ten to twelve students are admitted annually into the DNP program, nurse-midwifery specialty, that begins in the fall semester. Applicants should have one year of relevant clinical experience as an RN in maternity nursing, preferably in labor and delivery, before beginning the Nurse-Midwifery specialty courses.
For additional information, contact the Office of Student and Career Advancement Services.
To apply to the Nurse-Midwifery specialty, you must submit the online School of Nursing application and all corresponding materials. Applications are due November 1.
Those applicants interested in midwifery that are not selected may be placed on a waiting list. If not selected from the wait list, you must reapply to be considered for the next year.
Students already enrolled in the School of Nursing in another specialty area may apply for the NM specialty by submitting a new School of Nursing application and a Graduate School Change of Status form. Applications are due November 1.
Applicants who have already earned a Master's or Doctoral degree in nursing complete some of the same curriculum as other Nurse-Midwifery students. Courses that are current and similar to required University of Minnesota courses can be reviewed for substitution for University of Minnesota courses by completing a formal petition. Course requirements for post-master?s certificate students are arranged on an individual basis.
