BSN to DNP Admissions
For RNs who are practice-oriented and who hold, at minimum, a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent) in nursing. The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program prepares nurses for leadership as advanced practice nurses, clinical experts, health care executives, policy experts, and informaticians. The three-year DNP program is for students who already hold a baccalaureate degree in nursing, and involves both coursework and specialty practica.
We offer an Executive Model of education, which means that the majority of coursework is online with three (3) on-campus sessions in the Fall and Spring semesters, and two (2) on-campus sessions in the Summer semester. In all, students are required to be on-campus about eight (8) times per year. Some of the APRN specialty areas will require additional on-campus sessions beginning in the second year of the program. Specialties The DNP program at the School of Nursing offers a wide range of specialties: Experiential Requirments Some specialty areas require experience before matriculation or clinical practice. A table listing of these requirements is available to compare the experience requirements by specialty area. The School of Nursing is a leader in distance learning options and internet-enhanced courses. A number of courses are offered in a web-assisted format with mandatory on-campus seminars scheduled each semester. Admission to the DNP program includes an interview with faculty in the chosen specialty by invitation only. Not all applicants are granted an interview. Application Deadline The Nurse Anesthesia specialty deadline is September 1. Application priority deadline for all other specialties is November 1. Other DNP applications will be considered on a space available basis until March 1. A $60 application fee is required. Tuition Rates Tuition for the BSN to DNP option is $877.89/credit for the 2011-2012 school year, with a 9 credit tuition band of $7,901.00 per semester. Tuition for the Post-MS DNP option is $871.00/credit. Detailed tuition and fees information is posted on One Stop. Some specialty areas have experiential requirements. Registered nurses without a baccalaureate degree in nursing should complete that degree before applying. If you are not a nurse and have a baccalaureate degree in a major other than nursing, you are not eligible for the DNP program; however, you may consider pursuing the School of Nursing's 16-month Master of Nursing (MN) program. The MN program is specifically designed for individuals who have a bachelor's degree in a non-nursing area. High scholastic achievement Successful applicants typically have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.4 or above (on a 4.0 scale). Each applicant will be considered individually for any exception to the stated requirements. Graduate Record Examination Graduate Record Exam scores are required.
