About Christine Mueller

Christine MuellerChristine Mueller, PhD, RN, C, CNAA began her professional nursing career in 1974 in the specialty of gerontological nursing and for those 29 years has focused primarily on care of elders in long-term care facilities. She has had numerous leadership roles in nursing facilities: clinician, nurse administrator, staff development educator, consultant, and researcher. She has taught gerontological nursing and nursing administration/management at several universities. She served as the clinical research associate for the HCFA National Nursing Home Case-mix and Quality demonstration project and has worked on several HCFA projects related to nursing home quality of care. Currently, she is an associate professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Mueller is certified by the ANCC in gerontological nursing and nursing adminstration advanced. She is a member of the National Association of Directors of Nursing in Long-term Care, Sigma Theta Tau International, the Minnesota Nurses Association, the Gerontological Society of America, and the Council on Graduate Education in Nursing Administration. Dr. Mueller was selected to be a1999 Scholar for the Hartford Geriatric Nursing Research Institute. She was involved in the development of the ANCC Magnet Nursing Program for Long-term Care and serves as a site appraiser for the program.

Dr. Mueller's research program is focused on nurse staffing and nursing care delivery models in long-term care facilities. She is also on the review panel for four journals and the editorial board for one. She has been funded for numerous research studies and projects and has published over 30 articles and book chapters.

From 1985-1987, Dr. Mueller participated in the American Nurses Foundation project, "The Professional Development and Education of Nurse Administrators/Directors of Nursing in Long-term Care." This project involved partnering university-based schools of nursing with directors of nursing in nursing homes through a unique education offering designed exclusively for directors of nursing. In part, this website and the online courses carries that project forward into the 21st century.
