Education

The School of Nursing offers gerontological nurse practitioner and gerontological clinical nurse specialist tracks at the master's level. Doctoral students can focus their study in gerontology. A variety of self-directed and interdisciplinary minors are offered at both doctoral and master's levels, including bioethics, complementary and alternative therapies, health policy and health services. Since many of our students are practicing professionals, we have designed a schedule with their needs in mind that includes a number of on-line learning opportunities.

In the fall of 2003 the Center was renamed to reflect its expanding role in gerontological nursing education as well as its ongoing involvement in aging-related research. A new position entitled Coordinator of Gerontological Education has been created to strengthen education in gerontology for all students in the school, ensuring the integration of gerontological content and experiences across curricula.

During the 2004-2005 school year, the position will be jointly funded by the John A. Hartford Foundation's Geriatric Nursing Investment Program and the School of Nursing.
