About the Center

Building on the work of the previous Centers for Long Term Care (1990-1993, 1994-1998) the Center for Nursing Research on Elders (1998-2003) was created to expand the School's commitment to improving the health, quality of life, and delivery of quality nursing care to older adults of diverse cultures through knowledge development, dissemination and utilization. The CNRE was designated a Center of Research Excellence within the Academic Heath Center at the University. In the fall of 2003 the name was changed to Center for Gerontological Nursing (CGN) in order to better reflect our commitment to both research and education that guide practice in enhancing the health of aging adults. CGN faculty are strengthening and expanding partnerships with community agencies and organizations that will advance gerontological nursing research and its utilization in practice and education.

Center goals are to:

  • Facilitate research on health promotion, symptom management, health restoration and care delivery for aging adults
  • Promote research training and career development
  • Foster scholarly inquiry and collaboration among faculty, students and community partners
  • Disseminate research findings to local, state, nationals and international audiences.
