Significance of Symbols on School of Nursing Pin

The University of Minnesota School of Nursing pin has been in use since September 1913.

The antique lamp represents the metaphysical sciences; the telescope, the physical sciences; the plow, the industrial arts, and the artist?s palette represents the fine arts. These are the four dimensions of a baccalaureate education.

Above and below is the cross of St. George, which for centuries has stood for unselfish service.
